For some people, sports play such a large role in their lives. For captain of the Millbury varsity football team, Steven Richmond, that statement could not be more true. He is a Senior at Millbury, and along with football, he is also a captain of the Millbury boys track and field team. The days are winding down for the season, and for some such as Steven, it is their last. I sat down with him to discuss his last season.

How has this season been different from the last?

All of the guys are  playing for each other. 

What are the responsibilities as a captain?

Leading my team by demonstrating good qualities on and off the field.

How has football impacted your lifestyle?

Football is something that I love. It takes up a lot of my time. It taught discipline and hard work.

What is some advice you would tell younger athletes looking to pursue football?

Definitely try it, and be ready to put in work.

What is something you wish you knew when you began this sport?

The importance of weight training to enhance performance and prevent injury.

How have your teammates influenced the sport you love?

I have a strong bond with my teammates because they are all of my friends.

Do you have any rituals you do on game day or practice days?

The night before away games, all of my teammates and I go out to eat at the Chinese buffet.

What is the biggest accomplishment your team has made?

We finally beat Uxbridge after never beating them before.

Who has helped you reach the goal you are at now with this sport?

My father because he has pushed me to be the best player I can be.

What do you think you will miss most about football?

I will miss playing with all of my best friends because I will never have the opportunity to do that again.
