Every fall season in Millbury there are certain traditions that student are assured will always take place. These include the thanksgiving football rivalry game, quarter one report cards, and the Lions Club speech contest. Taking place the evening of November 15th, the Millbury Lions Club sponsored the annual speech contest in the Media Center to a large crowd made up of Millbury Lions, judges, staff, students, and supportive family members. This years question had students pondering the “Impact of Volunteerism”.
For the third year in a row, a panel of impartial judges has chosen Annette Ellis as the winner. Runners-up Kayley Watkins, Katherine O’Leary, Maria Fresolo, and Madison Plante, each presented thoughtful and well written speeches detailing the personal and societal impacts of volunteering, but Annette solidified her place with a touching tribute to former Millbury High School Staff member and local reporter Thomas Reilly.
The next stop for Annette will be for the zone competition in December, where she will compete with other students from surrounding districts to determine who will move onto the regional contest.
