The Millbury Music Department, headed by Dan Ferreira, has been very busy this fall. The Marching band recently finished their season strong with a performance at  MICCA State Finals, receiving a bronze medal of 3 stars, while Color Guard received 4 stars.

Hannah Bishop, senior, led the band to their bronze medal as drum major. Among her are seniors, Taylor Palmer, flute, and Jake Robbins, clarinet.  The band is hoping to get new uniforms for next fall’s season, replacing their current uniforms that are over 25 years old. With the cost estimated to be over $40,000, they have been working hard to reach that goal with the assistance of the Millbury Music and Performing Arts Association.

One way that the Music Department is trying to raise money is through the 3rd Annual Mattress Sale, taking place on Saturday, November 11th from 10am- 5pm in the High School Cafeteria. Last year they raised $7,000 and this year they hope to raise $10,000. All money raised will be distributed through Milbury’s performing arts programs. Last year, Elmwood Street School was able to purchase a new piano with the money raised while Shaw School purchased Orff Mallet Instruments and an iPad for their music classes. The High school has put this money towards their marching band uniform fund, equipment, music purchases, and Drama microphones.

This is one of Millbury Music Department’s biggest fundraisers, and they hope to be even more successful than last year. Stop by and see what they’re all about!
